Schwarzbier

Schwarzbier pours almost black but remains clean, dry and surprisingly light on its feet. Bread crust and dark-malt character lead the flavour, joined by a restrained bitter-chocolate or coffee note and enough hop bitterness to keep the finish crisp. Unlike a stout, it should never taste burnt or heavily roasted. Next to a Munich Dunkel, it is usually darker, drier and lighter-bodied, with a subtle roasted edge. Its name simply means "black beer" in German, although the style itself is a regional tradition of Thuringia, Saxony and Franconia.
